Do i need to complete replace my heater box on my car if it gets a hole in it?

i have a hole in my heater box its a box chevy 86 its the box that bolt to the firewall and i want to know will this mean i will need to replace it or can i fab and fix it the hole is about the size of a bouncey ball that you get from those 25 cent machines its not a big hole
